Coverage Area

Unlike DSL and other broadband technologies that are limited to only densely populated areas, T1 service is available just about anywhere with a phone line. T1, also known as DS1, uses repeaters to boost up the signal strength of the transmission - allowing it to travel up to 50 miles away from the nearest Central Office location.

Bonded T3 is a good option for businesses which are ready to increase bandwidth beyond T3 (45Mbps), but do not need full OC3 (155.52 Mbps). Bonded T3 may provide the most seamless transition and least expensive option for upgrading your bandwidth from an existing T3. Other viable options include OC1, fractional OC3, burstable OC3 or full OC3. Each of the five services listed above has unique advantages. Which product is best suited for your company depends on your bandwidth applications and projected usage patterns.  T3 or DS3?

Written by: Dennis Green - Jan 9, 2009

In the context of telecommunications, the terms T3 and DS3 are often used synonymously to describe a 45 mbps (megabits per second) circuit. A T3/DS3 is the equivalent of 28 T1s. People who are more technically inclined will often refer to DS3 when they are talking about the configuration of the circuit, and T3 if they are referring to the physical connection which carries the circuit. Most people, however, use both terms interchangeably. T3/DS3 is used for carrying both voice (in the form of data) and data traffic. T3/DS3 is commonly used for larger point-to-point circuits, MPLS (multiprotocol label switching), Virtual Private Networks (VPN), internet traffic, call centers, and videoconferencing. To check availability or pricing for any T3 related services, please use the pricing tool located at the top of this page. It is easy to use, free, and without obligation.
